Miami has more e-bike rental options than anywhere else in Florida, and the widest spread in what they actually are. Some are beach rental counters aimed at hotel guests, some are serious electric bike retailers, and some are scooter shops with a few bikes in the corner. Sorting between them is most of the job.
This list covers shops within about 15 miles of Miami, which takes in Miami Beach, South Beach, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and the downtown core. Ranking is by Google star rating weighted against review volume, and every shop here is currently trading.

Miami or Miami Beach?
The two are a causeway apart and the riding is completely different.
Miami Beach is where most visitors want to ride: Beach Walk running north from South Pointe, Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road, and the Venetian Causeway heading back toward the city. Flat, scenic, and busy. Most of the shops aimed at visitors are here.
Miami proper is a city. Riding in Brickell or downtown is commuting, not sightseeing, though Coconut Grove and the Rickenbacker Causeway toward Key Biscayne are genuinely good rides. The shops here skew toward retail and repair rather than holiday rental.
If you are here for a few days and want one good ride, rent on the Beach.
Where to ride
Beach Walk, South Pointe to Mid-Beach. The obvious one. A paved path running behind the dunes for several miles, with beach access the whole way. Busy, slow in places, and worth it.
The Venetian Causeway. The best ride in Miami. A chain of low bridges and residential islands between the Beach and the city, with far less traffic than the MacArthur and views of the skyline on one side and Biscayne Bay on the other. About 3 miles across.
Rickenbacker Causeway to Key Biscayne. Longer, more exposed, and with a real climb over the bridge - which is where the motor earns its money. Crandon Park and Bill Baggs at the far end.
Shark Valley, Everglades. Not Miami, but an hour west and one of the best rides in the country: a 15-mile paved loop through sawgrass prairie with alligators on the verge. Bring water and sun cover. It appears in our ten best rides guide.
Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. Shaded residential streets, good for a slower ride.
What to rent
Class 2 cruisers cover nearly every Miami visit. Upright, comfortable, and the throttle helps at the traffic lights, of which there are many.
Skip the fat tyres unless you are heading somewhere unpaved. Everything here is asphalt.
Get a lock and use it. Bike theft in Miami is a real and persistent problem, and e-bikes are the most attractive targets on the street. Every rental agreement will make you liable for a stolen bike, and theft is excluded from most damage waivers - see our damage waiver guide.
Ask about lights if you are riding in the evening. It is legally required after dark and Miami traffic is unforgiving.
Timing and traffic
Miami's peak season is winter, roughly December through April, when the weather is at its best and rates are highest. Summer is hot, humid, and cheap, with brief heavy afternoon storms.
Ride the Beach Walk early. By late morning in season it is a crowd, and by evening Ocean Drive is not a place to be moving quickly on two wheels.
Traffic deserves genuine caution. Miami drivers are not looking for bikes, causeway shoulders vary, and scooters share the same space at different speeds. Use the separated paths where they exist.
Rules worth knowing
Florida treats an e-bike with a 750 W or smaller motor and working pedals as a bicycle - no licence, registration or insurance required. Helmets are required under 16. Minimum riding ages are set by rental shops and, in some places, by local rules, so ask before you book.
Miami Beach regulates where bikes may ride more actively than most Florida towns, and the rules on sidewalks, the Beach Walk and Lincoln Road change. Boardwalk sections are often walk-only in practice. Your rental shop will know the current position; ask before you set off. Our Florida e-bike law guide covers the state-level picture.
The short version
Rent on Miami Beach, get a Class 2 cruiser, ride Beach Walk early and the Venetian Causeway at least once. Lock the bike every single time you step away from it, and take the lights if there is any chance you will still be out after dark.
And call ahead. Miami has more shops than anywhere else in this directory, which also means more variation in what you will actually get when you turn up.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place to rent an e-bike in Miami?
Miami Beach, for most visitors. It has the highest concentration of rental shops aimed at visitors and puts you directly on Beach Walk and the Venetian Causeway. The shops at the top of the list above hold the strongest rating and review combination within 15 miles of Miami.
How much does it cost to rent an e-bike in Miami?
Roughly $30 to $55 for two hours, $60 to $95 for a full day, and $200 to $375 for a week. Miami and Miami Beach sit at the top of Florida's price range, especially between December and April. Expect a card hold of $100 to $300 per bike.
Can I ride an e-bike on the Miami Beach boardwalk?
Rules vary by section and change periodically - parts of the Beach Walk permit bikes and other sections are walk-only. Ask your rental shop for the current position, and dismount where signs say to. Riding on the sand is not permitted.
Is it safe to ride an e-bike in Miami?
On the separated paths - Beach Walk, the Venetian Causeway - yes, with normal care. On the main roads, treat it as a city with heavy traffic and drivers who are not looking for bikes. Stick to the paths and quieter residential streets, and use lights after dark.
Do I need to worry about bike theft in Miami?
Yes. E-bike theft is a genuine problem here and you are liable for a stolen rental, usually with theft excluded from any damage waiver. Use the shop's lock through the frame every time, never leave a bike on the street overnight, and take the battery with you if it detaches easily.
