Where to Rent E-Bikes on Florida's Beaches - Region by Region

A region-by-region look at where to rent e-bikes on the Florida coast, from the Emerald Coast and 30A to Tampa Bay, Southwest Florida, the Keys and the Atlantic side.

Florida has 1,300 miles of coastline and the e-bike rental scene is nothing like evenly spread across it. Some towns have a dozen shops within a mile; some stretches of coast have none. This is how the state actually breaks down for a visitor deciding where to ride.

Emerald Coast and 30A

The densest e-bike rental market in Florida. Santa Rosa Beach alone supports more shops than most Florida cities, thanks to the Timpoochee Trail running the length of 30A and beach parking that makes riding the practical choice rather than the fun one.

Further west, Destin, Miramar Beach and Fort Walton Beach have solid rental options and harder riding — busier roads, fewer separated paths. Pensacola Beach is a good flat ride along the shore road. Panama City Beach has plenty of rentals aimed at the resort strip.

Best for: families, long paved-path riding, a car-free week. Browse: Emerald Coast and 30A rentals.

The Florida Keys

Key West is the standout — flat, compact, terrible for parking and full of rental shops. Islamorada, Marathon and Key Largo have fewer shops but the Overseas Heritage Trail gives you long stretches of separated path along US-1 with water on both sides.

Best for: town exploring, one-of-a-kind riding on the Overseas Heritage Trail. Watch for: theft risk in Key West, and heat with almost no shade in the middle Keys. Browse: Florida Keys rentals.

Greater Miami and Fort Lauderdale

The biggest concentration of shops in the state by raw count, and the most variable in what they actually do — some are beach rental counters, some are serious e-bike retailers, some are scooter shops with a few bikes.

Miami Beach is the ride: Beach Walk, South Pointe, and the Venetian Causeway. Fort Lauderdale's beach road and the New River area are pleasant. Elsewhere in the metro, riding is for commuters rather than visitors.

Best for: city and waterfront riding, evening rides, a wide choice of shops. Browse: Miami and Fort Lauderdale rentals.

Southwest Florida

Naples, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Marco Island. Sanibel's separated path network is the best family riding in the region and arguably in the state. Naples has excellent flat riding through old town and along Gulf Shore Boulevard. Marco Island suits shorter loops.

Best for: relaxed family riding on separated paths. Browse: Southwest Florida rentals.

Sarasota and Bradenton

The Legacy Trail is the anchor — a genuine 20-mile rail trail from Sarasota to Venice — plus barrier island riding on Siesta Key, Lido Key, Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. Anna Maria in particular is built for bikes: a small island, a free trolley for when you are done, and low traffic speeds.

Best for: distance riding on the Legacy Trail, island hopping. Browse: Sarasota and Bradenton rentals.

Tampa Bay

St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Dunedin, Treasure Island and Tampa itself. The Pinellas Trail is the draw: 45 miles of rail trail linking St. Pete to Tarpon Springs through a series of towns that are genuinely worth stopping in. Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach have holiday rental counters; Dunedin and Gulfport have shops aimed at people who actually ride.

Best for: long trail rides with real towns along the way. Browse: Tampa Bay rentals.

Daytona and the Space Coast

Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach, Titusville, Cocoa Beach and Melbourne. Quieter than the west coast for rentals, but New Smyrna and Cocoa Beach both have good flat riding, and the Titusville area gives you the Space Coast wildlife refuges.

Best for: quieter beach town riding, wildlife. Browse: Daytona and Space Coast rentals.

First Coast

Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine and Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. St. Augustine is the best visitor ride in the region — a historic district with no parking and a bridge to a barrier island. Fernandina Beach is the quiet alternative.

Best for: historic town riding, quieter beaches. Browse: First Coast rentals.

Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast

West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Jupiter, Stuart, Port St. Lucie and Delray. Palm Beach's Lake Trail is a standout flat waterfront ride, and Jupiter's beach road is excellent. The Treasure Coast is quieter and less rental-dense.

Best for: waterfront cruising, upmarket town riding. Browse: Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast rentals.

Orlando and Central Florida

Not coastal, but worth knowing: Winter Garden's West Orange Trail is one of the best rides in the state and a genuine antidote to a theme park week. Ocala, Clermont and the Lake County trail network give you the only rolling terrain in Florida, which is where pedal assist earns its keep.

How to choose

If you are picking a destination around the riding, the shortlist is short: 30A for the best paved-path beach corridor, Sanibel for the calmest family riding, Key West for the most fun town, and the Legacy or Pinellas trails for real distance.

If the destination is already fixed, start from the town page in our find directory and call the two highest-rated shops. That is usually the whole job.
