Delivery is the quiet upgrade in Florida e-bike rentals. It removes the single most annoying part of renting bikes with a family - moving four of them in a hire car - and in beach towns it is close to standard.
What it costs
- Included: many beach town shops deliver free inside a set radius, commonly 3 to 10 miles, and
a good number include it outright on rentals of three days or more.
- Flat fee: $20 to $50 each way is the usual charge outside the free radius.
- Per bike: less common, but some shops charge $10 to $15 per bike for delivery and collection.
The pattern to look for is a free radius plus a fee beyond it. Ask two questions: what is the free radius, and what is the fee for my address?
What delivery actually includes
A good delivery is not just a drop-off. Expect:
- Bikes brought to the property, sized and adjusted for each rider.
- Helmets, locks and lights supplied and fitted.
- A short handover: how the assist levels work, how to charge, what to do if something breaks.
- Collection at an agreed time on your last morning.
If a shop will not size the bikes at delivery, that is worth knowing before you book - a badly set saddle makes a week of riding uncomfortable.
When it is worth paying for
Renting three or more bikes. The maths is simple: you are not fitting three e-bikes and a child seat into a mid-size rental car, and a bike rack for a week costs more than the delivery fee.
Staying more than a couple of days. Delivery on a week-long rental typically works out at a few dollars a day.
Staying somewhere with parking constraints. Anywhere on 30A, Key West, or a barrier island where you would otherwise be driving to a shop and back twice.
When to collect from the shop instead
Short rentals. For a two-hour or half-day ride, you are usually going to the shop anyway.
When you want to try before you commit. Trying two frame styles in the car park is easier at the shop than on your driveway.
When the fee is per bike and you are renting several. Occasionally the maths flips.
Practical notes
Confirm the delivery window, not just the day - "Saturday morning" is the usual level of precision, and a tighter window is worth asking for if you have plans.
Confirm where the bikes will be left if nobody is home, and whether they will be locked. On a week-long rental, ask where you are expected to store them overnight; a condo garage is fine, a beachfront balcony is a theft claim waiting to happen.
Confirm the collection time on your last day. Most shops collect in the morning, which means the final day is not really a riding day.
Frequently asked questions
Do Florida e-bike rental shops deliver?
Many do, especially in beach towns where visitors stay in rental houses and condos. Delivery is often free within a few miles of the shop and charged beyond that. Browse the shops whose profiles list delivery on our delivery page.
How much does e-bike delivery cost in Florida?
Typically free inside a set radius of 3 to 10 miles, and $20 to $50 each way beyond it. Some shops include delivery outright on rentals of three days or more, and a few charge per bike instead.
Is e-bike delivery worth paying for?
For three or more bikes, or any rental longer than a couple of days, almost always. Moving several e-bikes in a hire car is impractical, and a rack for the week usually costs more than the fee.
Will they set the bikes up when they deliver?
A good shop sizes each bike to its rider, fits helmets, supplies locks and lights, and walks you through the controls. Ask before booking - a shop that only drops bikes at the kerb is a different product.
When do they collect the bikes?
Usually the morning of your last day, which means that day is not a riding day. If you want a final morning ride, agree the collection time when you book.
